Error opening Portfolio Summary, Task List or Task Reminders

As of JCS 35.002.06 this issue is resolved automatically by JCS. For more information see the JCS Help page Getting Started > Troubleshooting > ActiveX

Error Description

The following error can occur when attempting to open Portfolio Summary, Task List or Task Reminders page.

Because of your security settings and current security policy, this control is disabled. To modify your policy and enable the database, use the Message Bar.

Cause

It is caused by Microsoft Access preventing the use of third party "Active-X" components, such as "iGrid", which JCS requires to function. Sometimes an update to Microsoft Office can change default security settings, which can cause the error to occur.

To Fix

If you are not confident following these steps, please contact JCS Tech Support who will be able to assist.

1) Close JCS

2) Open Microsoft Access (If you don't have a shortcut, click the Windows button and search for "Access" until you see it listed)

3) When Access opens, double-click "Blank desktop database" and select "Create"

4) From the menu at the top of the Access window, click File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings

5) Select ActiveX Settings and select "Prompt me before enabling Unsafe for Initialization (UFI) controls..."

6) Click OK and close Access

Preventing Further Errors Like These

If your Office updates are set to the "Current" channel, it means you will be getting the very latest Office updates as soon as they are produced, and before some potential issues are weeded out and fixed by Microsoft. We recommend users of JCS switch to one of the less risky channels: either the "Monthly" or "Semi-Annual". Your IT department should be able to help set this up for you.
